I am running for another term on the school board to continue the work we have already begun, to increase focus on academic achievement and student well-being, to increase staff diversity, and maintain stability in administration and the board.
Since I was appointed to the school board in September we have begun:
-
a systematic evaluation of the superintendent on a regular basis. School Boards in the past have not always done this.
-
engaging professional development help to improve our board’s working relationships, efficiency, and accountability.
-
developing a new strategic plan to begin the 22-23 school year.
-
evaluating the school system’s financial position for next year’s budget.
-
increasing transparency and communication with the community.
-
hearing school requests for expulsion. Although this has been controversial, the board has a better understanding of the Student Code of Conduct and how it is utilized. As a result, we have recommended ways to better support students.
During my next term on the board, I will focus my efforts on the following data-driven areas:
-
increase academic achievement by using test data to facilitate new strategies
-
provide better supports for students and decrease behavioral issues by using disciplinary data
-
increase school attendance by using attendance data and follow-up discussions with families and students
-
increase student enrollment by ensuring our programs that draw students to the district are staffed and funded well.
